They don't make them like this anymore
Thanks to notebookcheck.net, I've scored a Fujitsu Futro S730 passively cooled mini PC (technically, it's a thin client) with an AMD GX-217GA processor, 4GB RAM and an 8GB mSATA SSD. All of that for a princely sum of €14.03 — with free DHL shipping included. And that was not even the cheapest model in the store I bought it from.
It's not my first Fujitsu mini PC, but I still can't stop marveling the way hardware was made back in the day. I don't want to sound like a grandpa, who annoys everyone around him with endless tales of how everything was better when he was young, but just look at this thing of beauty:
- Solid metal case makes the machine pretty much indestructible.
- Two chunky Phillips screws is all it takes to remove the entire top cover.
- The internal layout is spacious, meaning that accessing individual components doesn't require any dexterity and swearing.
- No tiny weird screws in sight.
- Small touches, like the CMOS battery has a dedicated holder.
I did chuckle when I saw the size of the heatsink, though.
